I have a octavia 2014 and the infotainment system has suddenly decided not to work.

It will come up with skoda sign then screen goes blank!

Due a service in 200 miles so is this a ploy by the garages lol

Have you tried the soft reset? Push the volume knob in and hold it in for about 10 seconds 

And the welcome to skoda and badge comes up every so often

Yes tried that

Ive checked fuses and seem to be ok. The usb port isnt charging anything now and the skoda welcome isnt coming on.

So, checking the fuses has made another fault occur? Check the fuses, (correct rating, has it blown) again and make sure they go back in the correct places. No idea about the original fault.

Sorry i should have put that the usb charger wasnt working before. Only touched the fuse relative to the console and it was fine. Off to skoda to get diagonised whixhbis about £80 to do!
