Inner left front door handle NLA ?

Featured Replies

Having  lent my MK1 Elegance estate  to my daughter for a few weeks I was told it was coming back back with a shattered NSF door glass and a reference to the central locking on the same door starting to be  being iffy about the same time. Bye Dad  I'm off to Australia, thanks for the loan of the car and oh I know I was going to get it serviced but we have been Soooo busy.

After organising a used replacement glass in advance of it coming back  (twice as the first one was the wrong size ). it turned  out the glass was fine and had just dropped into the door (contrary to the vivid description of shattering glass ) , but the electric regulatormechanism  had failed. That's now fixed but the central locking is very reluctant to open that door.

Rather oddly it responds more easily to the lock/unlock switch on the driver's  door.

My immediate problem is that my friendly local garage are saying Skoda can't come up with an inner door handle and the handle has broken.

I had a look on line and ordered an aftermarket one, but it has arrived from Germany as a UK driver's side and when I recheck the site it is saying out of stock for the NSF now.  Not my week.

Is this a known parts availability issue and does something from one of the other VAG group models fit ? My car has the shiny plastic chrome handles, but not fussed as long as the door can be opened from the inside. I see the odd used one turning up on fleabay but a bit cautious in case they are a  known failure  point ?

Thanks in advance

The handles are not a known failure issue.

Surely there's an inverted Furbie vRS in a scrappie near you though?

Thanks, yes, had them on watch. Better bite the bullet and get them. The aftermarket one is on a no quibble return but I see I have to pay the postage back to Germany. Hey ho, live and learn.

Glad to see the handles aren't a known failure point.

Bit surprised Skoda couldn't come up withthem, given the NSF must be the most used one as the bulk of production must be LHD.

It must be because the Mk1 is getting old. Someone on here was looking for a coolant hose recently and that was obsolete from Skoda too.

Further development is that after a period of becoming reluctant to open the passenger door with the remote, it decided on the day of the MOT not to open at all.

Fortunately they managed to get it to open but the replacement lock seems to be about £180.

The first scrapyard one had the wrong number of pins and an eBay used one with the right number fits physically  but won't work.

If the driver's door lock is put in the passenger side, it works, suggesting that it's not the wiring.

Do the locks need to pre coded to the car on the MK1 Fabia ?

And is there a reasonably priced aftermarket replacement ? It's a 5 door 05 rege Elegance.

Thanks.

No,  just plug and play.

There are cheap lock units on ebay. Some people here have had success with them.

Example...
