Windshield scratches - Poor quality glass?

Featured Replies

Have owned my MY17 superb for about 1 month and cleaned it twice but never cleaned the wipers. Just the other day after cleaning it I noticed a fairly visible maybe 20cm long scratch in the center of the windshield close to the rear mirror.

Upon further inspection and driving in direct sunlight i notice quite a lot of fine scratches over the windshield, and the worst affected part is close to the end of the wipers end position on the driver side, like a column of very fine scratches about 15cm high and 3-4cm long. Although not directly in the field of vision definately annoying.

Not sure if the scratches were there when I bought it but I suspect not since I should have noticed at inspection. Shocking if this is the result of not cleaning the blades for one month summertime. Never had this problem with a car before. Wipers are in good condition.

Anyone else with the same problem? How often do you wipe the blades off? And how do you get them to service position?

Not shocking at all. Superb glass is not made of diamond. If in doubt rub any very small pebble from the road on the windshield of any car.

User's manual anyone?

Reading about volkswagen glass there’s several reports of it being softer than other manufacturers. Coming from Volvo never had any problems just cleaning the wipers every now and then (certainly not every month summertime), and it had 200000km on it!
