Dsg shuddering when pulling away in low gears

Featured Replies

Can anyone advise regarding this problem.  This is more noticeable when the engine and gearbox warm up.  There is a shudder from the drive train when pulling away from stop and again when accelerating from a low speed, the judder stops as the box changes up through the gears.  The box is a 7 speed dsg Octavia fsi 1.4 Petrol.

Welcome.

Best say how many miles or km the car has done.

Is engine servicing up to date, so Air Filter Clean, Fuel filter replaced, Spark plugs changed or at least checked.

Has Service Campaign '34F7' been needed or carried out since 2014.  (Skoda Dealers or customer services can check, or there should be a sticker in the spare tyre well.)

So Synthetic oil changed to mineral and a software update.

(there is a service campaign '34H5' on some DQ200 2013-2015, which might not show on the VIN checker, a software update.)

Can be the MCU,

can be Clutch Packs,

can be both,

best have it checked by a trained and qualified technician or mechanic who deals with DQ200 DSG 7 speed twin dry clutch boxes,

you know it is not feeling right and it is not.

Car has 37500 miles (60350km) has regular serving including filter changing, new platinum spark plugs and oil change for dsg box.

Thanks for the information regarding the updates I’ll check them out.

@Honk

Please explain.

?

Why was the oil changed in the DSG, was this the Service Campaign '34F7' and free or was this some 'DSG oil change you paid for, and done by who.

When was the DSG oil changed, at what miles?

The DQ200 DSG has no service schedule / guidelines / intervals.

There are 2 oils to do a Oil change, and any Dealership tech doing a DQ200 DSG oil change should have a reason to be doing it and not because some Service Desk person says a oil change is at 4 years / 40,000 miles, because that is not the case with the 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG.

Hi Feedom,  the oil was changed at my request due to the shuddering in low gears 1st and 2nd.  I paid for a full service and the dsg  oil change.  The garage is local and they have a good reputation for first class service.  I’m not familiar with service campaign 34f7.

I’ve checked Skoda recalls and there are none for my car.

So the gearbox oil was changed but has not rectified the initial problem. Wonder what oil was used this time???

37500 miles is quite low for a mk2. Have you had the car from new???

What type of garage (ie Skoda / Indy / specialist???) has done the servicing, in particular, the gearbox oil???

Be helpful if you fill in your car details more in your profile.

Thank you Tilt I’ve been out all day so only just seen your post.  I bought the car secondhand from the Skoda dealership in Warrington it was advertised as aStar buy with 17000 miles on the clock. The oil change didn’t rectify the problem and it was changed at my request by my local independent garage who have been servicing my current and previous Octavia’s for over ten years without any problems.  The garage assured me they I used the correct oil specified by Skoda.

Do do you have knowledge and experience with transmission judder?   The judder is more notable when the box warms up and more so after a long journey.  The judder happens when pulling away and essentially if I am almost stopped then accelerate away, also there is the same judder in reverse.  I’ve updated my profile.

Additional information

No problem, Hope you had a good day.

Well mine is the 6 speed wet and circa 137k miles, but i know it behaves absolutely fine so long as i give it time for the gears to engage properly before properly accelerating.

However, it only requires a half second or so, so about the same amount of time it takes for a clutch to be pressed in a manual car.

I still pull away slightly earlier than most if i am in a hurry-ish.

I'm not familiar with the 7 speed tho, no.

How do you drive it???? Are you mechanically sympathetic or do you like to, lets say 'give it some'?

Is it possibly deliberating between gears?? though the issue with reverse too would suggest (logically to me at least) a possible problem, maybe the clutches.

Have you had the garage have a look at it yet?

@Honk

?

When was your car built?

?

Do you have the invoice for the Oil used, and quantity, and was a Software Update or rest done?

?

Who did you check with on Recall or Service Campaign because the VIN checker is not accurate?

The car was built in 2012,  I’ve not got an invoice for the oil change and I’m going to have the car checked by a local VAG specialist garage.  I’ll post the result when I receive the report.
