Broken down - why no fault stored?

Featured Replies

Hi,

My 13 month old 1.5 SE Tech temporarily broke down yesterday. Car was fully warmed up. I started up in a car park after 10 mins shopping and nudged it back out of the space so my wife could get in.  It stalled while doing this with a message to restart manually. Tried to restart and it would start then stall within a few seconds with a warning on screen about revs limited to 4500. Couldn't feather the throttle to persuade the revs to keep up, and couldn't take any power at all to move the car more than a few inches. Ended up with the EPC light on, Stop/start error in the maxi dot and the exclamation light in the panel below.

I called Skoda Assist and the AA were on their way. Thought it would be useful to try and start again just to coax the car back into its space. Hey presto it started immediately. The EPC light came on then went out. Moved the car around the car park, and it seemed OK so called Skoda Assist for the AA to come to home instead, to diagnose the fault.

Got home 15 mins later after an uneventful journey including a spirited acceleration up to 60 mph uphill.

The AA engineer duly arrived just as we got home (less than 30 mins after the initial call - good service!). He plugged in the diagnostics - and absolutely no fault found. I thought any fault that caused a stop/start, engine power or EPC error (or all three) should be written to memory. Today, the car has been fine so far...

I'll take it into the dealer next week. Will they have deeper diagnostics than the AA? Any thoughts on the cause?

Will they have deeper diagnostics than the AA?

Yes although the AA should have something better than a £15 generic fault code reader.

He had a Bosch system. He went through every relevant menu and there was nothing there at all.
