Are Skoda Octavia's compatible with MIB 2.5 Golf units?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm in the process of buying a Skoda Octavia vRS (MY16).

The seller has stated it has a 8" Columbus infotainment system - but it doesn't have Android Auto.

I take it that means it likely has MIB1, correct?

I'm keen to retrofit it with a newer unit that has Android Auto support.

In 2019 - what are my best options here?

I was told by a local car upgrade place that the MIB2 units from the Golf 7 will work:

But I see there's also MIB 2.5 units - e.g.:

Would this also be compatible with a Skoda Octavia? Any other caveats or things I should bear in mind?

Thanks,

Victor

It’s always better to get a proper Skoda one as the correct HMI is loaded on the unit but there is no reason that can’t be changed. I have a MIB2.5 Columbus in my car and it’s great, not cheap, but great :) If the car you’re looking at is MY16 then it will be a MIB2 and should have the option of activating SmartLink in the menu. It’s £137 for the activation from Skoda. If the radio doesn’t have this option then the car is older than MY16. Do you have pics of the radio or model number?
