But the PiperCross, K&N, GreenCotton or what ever needs to be clean.

So maybe for 10,000 miles it is all good, first time cleaned all good, come time just a dirty Air filter.

Some are great when H20 would turn OEM filters to pulp,  or dust / dross is an issue and cleaning filters is part of regular maintenance.

Police Vehicles might get K&N Filters fitted, at Tax Payers expense, but then they get changed and binned, not cleaned and recoated as someone using them as a long term filter might do to be economic using a Long Life Filter.

No performance improvement if the filter is just making the car use more fuel without the car breathing better....

... but interestingly clogged K&N is still better than new OEM (according to this study)

Forget studies, try a car for yourself with a clogged air filter.

Not rocket science really.

I have used K&N Filters for decades for the right application.

You know they are dirty when the fuel consumption increases.

Performance in a short term test is all well and good. However what about actual filtration of fine dust.

A poor filter will allow things through, so will  flow better, but filter less well.

looks great in the quick test. The dust however blasts the turbo and engine, damaging them, reducing power due to wear and eventually an expensive failure.

so sure look at flow, but make sure you look at actual filtration too

I fitted a Pipercross to my Octavia Scout and noticed a difference straight away. Instantly it started pulling through the gears so much harder than it did before - my 0-60mph test improved as well knocking 2 seconds off .... at a guess.

Ok, I'm full of bull.....Reality - no noticeable difference.

On my Wife's Cooper S and previous Zafira VXR fitting a K/N made a noticeable difference to the recirc valve noise making it louder.
