Fabia 2013 1.6 tdi what to look for?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

So whilst im tinkering with our MK1 Fabia and sorting all the niggles the misses has finally caved in and we have settled on a model we both like.

we are going to look at a 1.6tdi Monte Carlo at Skoda tomorrow. I’ve no doubt it will be in tip top condition as it is from a dealer but is there anything major I should be looking, listening or feeling for?

Thanks

Mike

I would want to know if it has had the VW Group Emissions Fix.

So new Engine Management and a Flow Device fitted then the 24 month Trust Building' type promise.  Lottery Ticket....

So the usual things.

Service / Warranty history, the last MOT's advisories.  The 4 Tyres, the Windscreen for tiny chips, the condition generally.

The miles it has done.

?

Is it really tip top if you look really really closely.

Full Main Dealer Service History might mean the history of not much done.

Was the Brake Fluid changed in 2016, and again since in 2018 / 2019 as an example.

When was the Air Filter or Fuel Filter changed?

Thanks I’m hoping the car is as good as it reads as there are no pictures otherwise it’ll be a trip to the car people lol

Read here and numerous older topics ......

As to what to look for I would respond a 1.2 TSi  with the revised engine.

I'm unsure exactly when the revised engine started to be supplied or a quick definite way to know if fitted.

Maybe someone can add these details ?

If it had an Emission Update then i'd give it a miss.

Why give it a miss? I didn’t pay much attention to the emissions scandal as I didn’t own anything affected.

I think because lots of vehicles had the fix as such but performed terribly afterwards, my friends A3 was terrible after the "fix", he wanted it reverted but they wouldn't do it.

because the fix will almost guarantee you an EGR fail, injector fail, loss of power, jerky ride. All these happened to me and thousands of other people who had the update done. Even with the 2 years warranty they will give you, the car will drive really badly.  If I didn't have my car remapped after the update, I would have 100% sold it straight after the update. It was a completely different car to drive and hated it. Do a bit of online research and you will see.

@Bertie90 are you saying that the remap sorted out the problem? Once the other half has settled into we will having a remap done. Not so much for power it economy

ahhh....kind of. The best way to do it is to revert it back to the original software. The company I took it to said "it's safe" after the remap.

If you remap it on top of the new update software, the new map is still on. My egr valve went even after the remap. I hat to take it back to the remap company. Applied the fix on as it was, then taken back to Skoda and have the egr replaced under the warranty. Pain in the backside but saved me £1000.

Long story short either revert it to the original ECU software or don't buy it.

went to see it today... apparently it was in Mansfield being prepped for sale Alloys being refurbished so left a deposit so it doesn’t go anywhere.

it sounds like a really nice car and it’s been looked after.

returnable deposit for a car you have not physically seen I hope.....

Where are they based? We’re actually in Sheffield so not a million miles away anyway.
