VCDS Cable Options Mk1 Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi, having recently acquired the VCDS-Lite software I am trying to configure it, basically register my com port so it recognises the cable but I am having no luck so far. I have a PSA XS Evolution Actia cable used previously with Peugeot Planet and Lexia, I also have a generic cheap ELM 327 but neither are recognised by the VCDS software. So I am assuming I need another cable, had a look around on the forum and on the Ross-Tech wiki and could only find the HEX-V2 as the only option?

It seems rather expensive, worth it I suppose but I want to make sure it is my only option before going ahead. I don't want a shoddy one that can access half of the OBD functions but was wondering if their are any other alternatives before I go ahead?

Any advice is appreciated and sorry if this has already been answered it just seemed like a lot of the stuff was in relation to the newer Skoda models.

Thanks

Where abouts are you based?

Two options for full fat VCDS are:

1. A Used Genuine interface

2. Asking someone for a bit of help that's local to you for some "beer tokens" (or in my case nappies and chocolate tokens 👶)

If you don't need to do an awful lot option 2 is probably the better option. If you insist on keeping one then option is best.

If you do want to buy an interface let me know as I have a HEX+CAN USB interface I'm considering shifting.

Edit: VCDS lite should work with a lot of the £10/£25 ebay cables.. so that's an option for you. I probably couldn't tell you which ones as I have no idea myself 🤷‍♂️ Lite is the cut down version that lets you read a load of stuff but not change it. You may find buying an ebay ODB2 cable for diagnostics (with lite) coupled with visits to people to get things changed is the better option.

Thanks guys for the help.

Most likely i will just buy that £20 cable, I am only really looking for the diagnostic side of things to make sure the car is healthy. But in future I may upgrade to the HEX if i am looking for a bit more. I glance through that function list on the wiki and the lite version seems perfect for what I need for now.
