Fault code city, on a mission to remove them all!

Featured Replies

After my success today with the heater motor flaps one resident fault code is banished but there are many others I want to see the back of, some I have always had, some may be as a result of things I have done and others have appeared since fitting a Chinese head unit, lets start by seeing if I can copy and paste a VCDS auto-scan, I'm not good with computers but here goes:

Wahay its worked, - no it hasn't, it does not have the detailed fault codes.

try again:

Starting with an easy one, the instrument panel, control module defective.

I think this has always been there but its just possible it only started when I swapped the ECU for a remapped one that had the immobiliser defeated to make it plug and play.

Any ideas?

And with the ECU change in mind it may have had an effect on the alarm controller fault codes, it always had the non comm error because the internal battery had leaked over the circuit board, I replaced it with a new Chinese one from Ali-Express to get the same fault code plus then the interior monitoring sensor fault, it is just possible that this coincided with the change of ECU and whatever they had done to defeat the immobiliser.

Given that i no longer have an immobiliser, the alarm is not functioning despite the new siren, if no-one can suggest how to fix it can i not recode the vehicle to say it does not have an alarm/immobiliser and get rid of the fault codes?

I have seen a coding checkbox in the can bus gateway controller for immobiliser, i ticked it when recoding the new one as it was ticked on the old one, does immobiliser mean alarm as well and could I just untick it?

Now for the fault codes that started when I fitted the Chinese head unit which has Satnav on a micro sim card.

01304 Radio, no communication.

OK I understand that, its no longer there, on the old canbus I tried coding it out but then the new unit would not switch off with the ignition, is there a solution to retain the functionality but remove the faultcode?

The head unit interpretes the can bus signals for switch off, wake up, doors open, reversing sensors etc but clearly does not talk back to the gateway controller.

Control module incorrectly coded, not a lot of use unless I know what is incorrect, I just ticked the options that the older revision unit had coded in.

Adress 37 Navigation cannot be reached.

It seems to think that navigation is fitted but cannot communicate with it, this happened also with the original can bus gateway, navigation is definitely not ticked on either of them.

Address 56, radio cannot be reached; - ditto.

I was so jealous when I scanned my neighbours 2012 Octavia, not a single fault code, recently mine with the old can bus gateway not switching the head unit off I had fault codes on all but a couple of controllers.

My aim is to have none, since owning the car they are apppearing faster than I can resolve them although many are probably down to the changes I have made like the remapped ECU and the head unit.

I don't think it'll ever be fault free given what you've had done.

37-Navigation -- Status: Not registered 0011

Add 37 to the installation list in the CAN gateway.

01304 - Radio
    004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent

Address 37: Navigation
Cannot be reached

Address 56: Radio
Cannot be reached

Are due to the aftermarket radio, for it to turn on/off you need to keep them in the installation list so you'll always have faults.

00003 - Control Module
    014 - Defective

Is likely to be due to the immo removal, again, not much you can do unless you get the immo sorted.

01135 - Interior Monitoring Sensors
    004 - No Signal/Communication
01134 - Alarm Horn (H12)
    004 - No Signal/Communication

You can either fix these or try and code them out. Should be pretty obvious which bits need checking/unchecking from the descriptions :)

  • Author

What module do I code them out of?

Canbus gateway has an address for "immobiliser" but dont know if that includes the alarm?

I came to the same conclusion regarding the radio.

Hopefully tomorrow the voltage wont have dropped any significant amount.

Probably 46 at a guess? Otherwise maybe 09.

Removing 25 will give you an error so it won't help. When the immo was removed, some number of checksums have been messed up in the instrument cluster EEPROM. The only was to remove the error is to fix the immo data and checksums.

  • Author

So I believe they are the module numbers where you think I should look for addresses to recode, is that correct?

Add 37 to the gateway............

I think you mean to tell it that it has navigation fitted, I'm sure I tried that with the old module but will try again.

You think the instrument cluster control module defective code is due to the immobiliser being bypassed in the ECU, is that correct?

The immobiliser defeat would have been on the engine ECU though, shouldn’t effect the dash cluster. Should still be operating on immo 2 effectively.

What is "immo 2" please?

Level 2 immobiliser. Dash and key transponder.

Level 3 onwards would be dash, key and engine ECU.

I thought the MK2 Octavia was immo4?

  • Author

2 , 3 or 4 I dont understand Techie's comment or its relevance, that the dash cluster should be working on immo 2, what does this mean in relation to my getting rid of the fault code that says the dash cluster is defective or uncoding the immobiliser and/or alarm?

What I mean is you can defeat the engine side of the immobiliser and it should have nothing to do with the dash cluster. The fault code you have is to do with the dash cluster itself, not the defeat.
