Launch control

Featured Replies

I'm the owner of a my18 2.0 150 diesel DSG. I was always of the understanding that this engine didn't have launch control and therefore I never tried. However the other day I decided to try, followed the procedure and on the MFD launch control active displayed and worked.

However since this I can't seem to get it to activate again. Was I just dreaming that I activated it? Was it a glitch? Any tips or anyone else had it working on a 150 diesel DSG?

Was the engine/oil up to temperature and did you disable everything?

Stop start - off

TCS - off

Drive mode/DSG- sport/S

Press and hold brake

With a TDI perhaps there’s other conditions such as DPF regen status to consider (?)

When I tried (just for fun), I don't remember haviing to switch S&S OFF...

Only TCS OFF / DSG in S mode / Press brake.

But that months ago... I may have forgottent something (I've never open the user's manuel to read properly how to activate it).

🤔

S&S needs to be off too, learned hard way 😉

TCS button needs to be held down until a sport/launch message comes up. Can’t remember what it actually says but definitely not just TCS turned off. It won’t work otherwise.

my 190 4x4 is quite good fun when I get the chance to use it.

3 years in and I've never tried it. I can imagine myself jabbing buttons whilst the knackered Micra to my left just meanders off.

Perhaps I can combine it with the automatic parking function (also never used) for some really fast parking.

If you have DSG then you have launch control.

Only done it in the original 3.2 V6 TT, when I had the loan GT (Again the original with both turbo- and super-charger) I wasn't on a suitable road.

@penguin17 & @JamesEnfield

Thnking back to this thread last week, I was curious about the effect of siwtching the S&S OFF or not on the activation sequence.

I've made the process without switching the S&S OFF and it nevertheless activated the Lauch control mode 🤨

Since I was only curious about this very point, I aborted the sequence by switching the TCS back to ON and DSG in D mode. I did a normal start. 😄

Could this S&S story be related to country specs?

Hi

Try as I may I can't activate launch control. Should I see the words launch control displayed?

Foot on brake

Start car

Selector in drive

SS off

Mode select sport

TC off (short press). I also tried long hold which gives ESC Sport.

Pull selector back and release.

Warning lights off systems turned off but no indication of launch control

Any ideas?

Got it.

Accelerator and then it says launch control activated

Never tried LC and won’t TBH; too many stories of horrific clutch pack wear. Car is fast enough off the line without it.
