Height Adjustable Arm Rest!

Featured Replies

I find that with a new car there are always a few surprises even when youv'e had the car for a few months. Mine came today when I realised that the centre arm rest is height adjustable. I always wondered why there was a rachet mechanism when you opened the jumbo box, now I know!.

Dont laugh but I thought it was to stop you trapping your fingers at first.

Alright you can laugh:rofl:

It is comfy when you find the right spot its just a shame it blocks the handbrake.

 , made my day!.

My son found this out this evening and he thought it was great :)

Would you believe my test drive salesman not only showed me this, he spent more time talking about the armrest and jumbo box than anything else! Wow, an air-conditioned cubby hole for my sunglasses.

Edmra: You have a place for sunglasses in the ceiling??? Is it air conditioned as I would rather not have freezing glasses

my armrest is height adjustable in my mk1 octavia 4x4 :)

does it work the same though? in mine it changes the stop height basically so the higher you have it the more of angle its at rather than raising the whole thing.

cold sunglasses is annoying, when you put them on they steam up!

I discovered this about a week ago, never use the armrest in the front so not sure it will be of any use. However cubby hole box ok for odds and ends. May use it to put a drink or choccie in during the hot summer we are supposed to be having!

I don't use that celing cubby, I meant the jumbo box space. I always feel the ceiling one will just drop things on my head when I use it. The one on top of the dash is useful. When I sell this car on I'm going to have to have a check list of all the various storage cubbies or I'm going to leave all kinds of stuff behind in it. A cupboard by my knee, a drawer under the passenger seat, box between rear seat passengers air ducts.........anything else?

Can you please tell me how you adjust the arm rest up? I know you can slide it forward or back.

Inside the jumbo box there is what appears to be a round rachety thing but when I pull it it only moves about an inch or so and seems to be superfluous.

just open the armrest slowly to the desired height and it will stay there. to reset open fully and it will close right down.

Round rachety thing inside is what you use to allow/stop cool air entering the box, ie it opens and closes a small hole at the bottom of the box where the air comes in.

To adjust the armrest just pull the lid up to the desired height and it will remain in that position by means of a rachet type stay, simple as that really.

Beaten to it:)

Small addition - I find with the rest right up [which is comfortable] it is a little awkward to get at the handbrake. So I tend to raise the armrest for fairly long journeys only.

Does anyone have a problem with the ar rest getting in the way of the drinks holder?

Not exactly. The arm rest/jumbo box is much better than many other cars as I normally hate them as they block the handbrake too much. I can put a bottle of water in the front drinks holder but if it's in the rear holder the arm rest will touch it if you try to extend it out.

I haven't tried adjusting the 'height' but I'm going for a drive now and will take a look for myself.

Incidently, the larger (chill-able) space inside the jumbo box is perfect for about four or five CD cases. I haven't found out what the other odd spaces are for... coins and crap?

One is definitely called a sunglasses holder [i think it is the ceiling one] but I use the dash one for that. The others are for sandwich, revolver and flyspray, not necessarily in that order.

The celing cubby hole I use for my mobile phone, perfect size for it and keeps it away from prying eyes.

Yes, the ceiling compartment is meant for sun glasses but to be honest, the space is too small for a hard glasses case. I expect it is good for a slim line case or sleeve, if not the bare glasses themselves. Putting a mobile phone in there is a good idea, assuming you don't want to use it (handsfree) whilst on the road.

I'm actually loving the arm rest more and more and the other compartments are very useful.

Mine works fine with a Bluetooth earpiece whilst tucked away up there!

have you found the one under the passenger seat yet?

I keep all the books in there.
