Head unit change

Featured Replies

Hello, was querying about different units for my pre-face vRS with no MFSW or maxidot. I seen a Sony XAV-AX3005DB in halfords with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and the option of a rear camera, but I've no intention of hooking one up (I'm a good driver anyways! Touch wood) but for the sake of OCD the car has rear parking sensors and was wondering if there was any head units that support the beep or display system, or does the Sony one support this too.

thanks

jack

My Chinese one supports the reverse sensors, at first it didn't but when I fitted a reversing camera i found that the graphics are superimposed on the screen for the reverse camera, the birds eye view even shows my exact vehicle colour as well.

I had the same view as you regrading a reversing camera but it was cheap, discreet (replaces number plate light) plug n play and I was bored! Now I have it I find it superb, I reverse on the mirrors as before but look at the camera instead of the rear view mirror, other day I had to reverse all the way along a one track narrow lane ending at a main road, it was so easy and I could stop exactly on the line and not over.

I am converted.

It even mutes the beeps once you have stopped if you remain in reverse gear, that didnt happen before, it also talks to the steering controller so shows a dynamic trajectory grid according to where the wheels are pointing.

Sounds class, I was hoping just to get the sensors working, if not really worried tbh.

Was reading another thread, will I still hear them through the speakers? If so that's grand I wouldnt be worried about the visual.

Yes you will, in fact i think its a dedicated mylar speaker in the B pillar.

I had just the sound before I got the graphic with the reversing camera display.

What I have lost is the 3 or 4 second display when you change a Climatronic setting but its no loss, it still shows on the Climatronic display.

Give a reversing camera a try, despite being really anti I was really surprised, I can see right down to the bumper and towball as well as back along the road and out to both sides of the vehicle, it will be really usefull for reversing up to a trailer coupling.

And one day there will be a low kerb, fence or parking bollard that cannot be seen in the mirrors or through the screen that would otherwise hit the bumper or exhaust etc.
