Fabia 1.2 TSI Electrical problems (ECU) I think?

Featured Replies

Hi All, I have just brought a 2012 Fabia TSI Estate 1.2, 70,000 miles. I fell in love with this car and it ticked all the boxes. I found it on Gumtree, drove it around, Seller had fitted a new lower radiator he said the old one leaked. Seller delivered the car to me probably a 20 mile journey. i didn't drive it for a month while i was waiting for the insurance and MOT to run out on my old Seat. So come the day the Fabia was road legal i done a 10 mile journey and it packed up. Engine was running but i had no acceleration, car was stuck in limp mode, Fault code was P033700 for the crankshaft sensor and P064200 low voltage. The Sensor was replaced but this did't solve the problem. So i took it to my local Garage and they replaced the throttle body. The car ran for 4 miles and packed up again. The garage then replaced the throttle body again, this time i done 12 miles and it packed up again. So this time i took it to a Skoda specialist. They had the car 3 days and have told me that they think its and ECU Fault and they don't want the job as someone had cut and soldered half the wiring loom, and it had had a knock in the front and could have crushed some wires (hence the new rad), but they did tell me the ECU was not communicating with the throttle body, and it could turn into a money pit was their parting words. So i was seeking advise, Do i send off the ECU for a diagnostic and possible repair, re place the loom and can i test the throttle body to see if it's faulty. Or do i ring "we buy any car". Any input would be very much appreciated

I think the original seller knew there was a fault, hence the delivery! As you say you had it from Gumtree, was that a private seller or a sneaky trader?  (Usually, you ask about the "Car" on the phone and they say, which one)? My alarm bells are ringing just from your description of the delivery!

Also, did you ask if the vehicle had an accident and/or any faults. If they were known and not disclosed, this is illegal. If you did not ask, its your own bad luck!

They told you the rad leaked so it was replaced, which is odd unless it was clearly new or they were emphasising new parts fitted but did they say the car had been involved in an accident?

You yourself will now be liable to disclose any faults that you know of, if asked. You won't have to volunteer them but if asked about it, its your responsibility to say so, if you sell it on.

I would get the ECU checked as the possibility of crushed/cut/repaired wiring is most likely simple to have them replaced during any repair. Not cheap perhaps but simple enough.

Yeah, i really screwed up when inspecting the car. Alarm bell never went off. I was so pleased with the car. I have found a company that will clone my ECU and let me drive on the clone for 14 days. If i get the clone and still have the problem then i am guessing it could be the loom.

Welcome.

I would find as local as you can a VW Independent / Specialist and talk over the issues and see if they are interested in getting involved in diagnosing and repairing.

?

Where in the country are you, maybe someone can recommend someplace?

I took it to a Skoda specialist. They done a full diagnosis. Came back with no signal to TB. But because the garage prior to them had cut ànd shut so many wires they didn't want to get involved. He said I could spend £2500, before I find the fault. I only paid £3000 for the car. Iam in S.London
