Spark Plugs and Ignition Coils

Featured Replies

How often should the Spark Plugs and Ignition Coils be changed on a mk2 VRS?
Are there any recommended brands to use or consider upgrading to? I vaguely remember seeing something about using Audi coils, but it might have needed a rail adapter?
Are there any good guides on there showing how to do the job yourself? I've done plugs and coils on a previous car, but again vaguely remember someone commenting about the job being tough to do on the VRS for some reason.

The Manufacturers Recommendation / Schedule is 40,000 miles on the spark plugs.

I would not leave it 20,000 miles without checking them, so if the plugs are out i change them.

The Coils can last a very long time if the one plug that over heats commonly is not doing that and having an ignition coils early demise.

A member did a very good 'how to change plugs' recently. @UrbanPanzer

In the Fabia Guide Section now i think.

EDIT.

PS

I Recommend DENSO Spark Plugs.

Thanks a bunch, that guide will be really helpful!

Personal opinion - If its your daily driver I'd change the plugs every 8-10k and replace the coils when knackered.

I've had denso plugs in for nearly 8k and they have been amazing however I'm changing to BKR7IEX as the cars developed a bit of a rough idle/misfire, If your wanting some piece of mind and want a more reliable coil /spark setup then and don't mind the price the Audi r8 coils with adapter plate its going to set you back over £200 although another member has bought some replica r8 coils and no adapter plate and has them working for around £40, Again in my own opinion the r8 coil conversion is a no brainer considering the issues form day dot with the oem plugs and coils on the mk2 fabia vrs.(When I find some spare cash i'll be doing this upgrade.)

£10 for the VW tool to remove the oem plugs or you can DIY it with tie wraps and some tools, Apart from that the plugs are straight forward to remove....From memory you only have to disconnect a breather pipe.
