What to look for when buying an octy mk11 pre fl?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, as the title suggests I'm looking at buying a pre-owned octy mk11 L&K DSG 1.9tdi, pre fl maybe 2006, in about a month or so, and I need you legends to help me by telling me what to look for when buying a car that old and what are the most common things that tend to go wrong with the car.

Hi. That is a very specific car you mention there...........

I know when I was looking for an Octavia DSG in the UK a number of years ago there were only two in the whole midlands area and no L&K's.

Are they a common vehicle, a DSG with that spec in India?????? And I guess servicing schedules are different, no????

Main thing I always think is does it drive properly, without any glitches...........and does it look right?

Haha yes, that's a very specific car I've mentioned because my dad already owns an Octy MK1 elegance with a manual transmission, and the mk11 will be for me, and just so that it seems like we've actually bought a different car I want the mk11 L&K because of features like the sunroof, xenon headlights, electric seats, auto dimming rear view mirror, 6 air bags and many many more. Need an automatic because of the traffic conditions here in Bombay, the DSG would provide me with an ease of driving. Lastly, only the 2006/2007 octy mk11 L&K would fit in my budget and tick all the boxes of the features I'm looking for in my car.

All Skoda cars are sold in good numbers in India because of their extensive list of features, their tank-like built quality and the fuel economy (diesel), hence a lot of the cars sold in India were the L&Ks (top-end varients).  Skoda did suffer serious depreciation because of their A.S.S  horror stories and really expensive spares.

Cool, but more gadgets = more to go wrong & more cost and time off road.......

Check no issues with DMF (rattling heard from back of engine) for one.

Air conditioning system seem to be a big fail on many cars Octavia's, including mine

And brakes seizing, often requiring new calipers. Check no wheels are hot after a drive............

And console bushes can be weak-ish, but not a big job to replace really.

Very outdated sat nav.

Other than that mine (Eleg) has been pretty reliable, if noisy. (I am touching wood, and no, that is not a euphemism, Lol).

Hi Anishk,

The 1.9 engine is pretty bomb proof and should go forever if serviced properly... Being the 1.9 you can if required go back to a solid flywheel rather than fit another DMF... DSG box I can't comment on as I've never driven one or owned one in the Octavia but if serviced regularly should be reliable ...

I've a 2007 L&K but with the newer 2.0 Diesel engine, and manual box, and have owned it since July 2015 when I bought it with 70,4000 miles on the clock and she's now sitting just shy of 140,000 miles and other than 3 new calipers, 1 rear and 1 front wheel bearing .. A broken front Spring, drop link and CV joint she's only been serviced every 9,600 miles ... Sounds a lot when you read it but compared to my previous Citroens it's nothing .. She's had 4 tyres in 4 years and a full 4 wheel alignment twice and I'd buy another in a heartbeat she's been that reliable

I don't think you can have solid flywheel with a DSG iirc..............I may be mistaken tho.

Tilt I believe you are quite correct I'm maybe getting wires crossed on the manual and DSG box
