Warning lights: ABS, ESP and TPMS

Featured Replies

The ABS, ESP and TPMS lights have just come on after braking gently to a halt. On restart, they do out and then come on again. Whilst driving they will go out and come on at random.

Obviously, the ABS and ESP are linked but TPMS?

Whilst the lights are on, neither the ESP or TPMS buttons work.

Any ideas? Loose fuse/connector?

TIA.

You have indirect TPMS installed which is done by the ABS module via the 4 wheel speed sensors rather than individual pressures sensors.

If the ABS/ESP is on the blink, it'll take TPMS with it :)

If possible, you should get the car scanned with VCDS or similar to see what fault codes you have.

Seconded, on both suggestion and reasoning.

Thanks for the info and advice. It's in at the local specialist next week for it's MoT and service, so I'll get them to check the codes then.

Sounds like it's going to be expensive though. 😭

... Bit off my own knowledge but check all four tyres, inside and outside sidewalls and tread, for objects, such as nails, etc. Also, look to see if you can see a wheel balance weight missing, if possible. (A small clean bare patch or residue where one might have been stuck).

I have heard of tyre issues causing this sort of thing.  Additionally, manually check all four tyre pressures. Don't rely on the monitors telling you that are ok.

As a guess I'd suggest the magnetic ring in one of the wheel hubs has failed so the ABS sensor is giving a spurious reading. This is common on Octavia's and requires a new wheel hub/bearing to fix. A computer scan will reveal all and if this is the problem it will say which wheel requires the work.

Unfortunately it will need quick rectification as it will fail its MoT.

Thanks. This doesn't sound like the complete show stopper that I was worrying it might be.

New hub was indeed the solution required for this problem as identified by @Anddenton. Done at a cost of just over £200.

Annoyingly, following a very informative discussion on another thread I started,

I have come to realise that all I needed was a replacement sensor ring https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/abs-ring-15085/skoda/octavia/octavia-combi-1z5/18247-1-6-fsi, a part that is available separate;y and barely costs £6 compared with £150 😡
