Decent brake pads.

Featured Replies

I had replaced the discs and pads all round with ones bought from the likes of Autodoc, they were a bundle price with the pads so I did not have the choice but would normally have bought something cheap but branded.

The discs have been fine but I was never happy with the brakes, they had initial bite but were not progressive and i had the impression that they were getting worse, the discs were smooth but were getting a blue/grey tint that was hard to see.

Following recommendations on here i bought Ferodo Premier Eco Friction pads, they were not too expensive €16 front and rear and have made a world of difference.

Just running a finger across them was like sandpaper compared to glass on the old pads, once fitted they had much more bite even before bedding in, I only gave them a very light bedding and not my usual deglazing action because I could already feel they were wearing away the glaze.

Today I did 30km with only a few brake stops but they felt much more reassuring and you can see the discs are becoming shiny and silver, its like looking at a used brake drum or cylinder head being machined, the old and the fresh new cut.

No visible brake dust yet either.

Now that things are easier I have to move away from the buy cheap buy twice habits of a lifetime.
