VCDS upgrade or any other device?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I took delivery of my brand new VRS 245 last week and thought it would be a good idea to take a scan of the car with my HEX+CAN cable and VCDS.

No can do, according to VCDS, the 245 is not supported  on the HEX+CAN and I must upgrade to a newer cable. The error message is "Unsupported vehicle. Please upgrade to a current Ross-Tech interface. ". Fair enough I suppose, I have had the HEX+CAN cable for 5 or 6 years.

The options to upgrade seem to be, buy a HEX-V2, for 3 vehicles, at £225, or buy a different device.

Can anybody recommend any other devices and are they as good as VCDS devices?

Thanks for your answers

Jeff

Tbh I have managed to do everything I have wanted to do with OBDEleven to the point that every time I think about upgrading I still don’t because VCDS isn’t necessarily more capable. I resent paying for a VIN locked cable no matter how good the rest of the package is. I keep my OBDEleven in the car with a cheap android device for on the fly diagnostics and for such a small tool it can do an amazing job. I would recommend one anyway and if you only keep it in the car for diag it’s great value and even better value if you use it for coding.

Which flavour do you have? The website shows three levels - starter, pro and ultimate

You need the PRO pack for long coding but that’s just a software download :)

They are releasing a new dongle shortly which will work with apple devices.
