Airbag warning light

Hi all

I have just replace my motor blower fan resistor on my Roomster following a video on YouTube. The fan resistor works fine but since I have replaced it the airbag warning light has appeared.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr8IIU1RkLk

The steps I followed to replace the fan resistor was;

  1. Disconnect battery
  2. Remove upper glove box
  3. Remove passenger airbag
  4. Disconnect wire block to fan resistor
  5. Removed broken fan resistor
  6. Replaced fan resistor
  7. Reconnected wire block to fan resistor
  8. Connected battery to test fan resistor - all good!
  9. Disconnected battery
  10. Fitted passenger airbag
  11. Fitted glove box
  12. Connected battery

If anyone has got any ideas what i need to reset the airbag warning light or if I have made any school boy errors when fitting the airbag / fan resistor please let me know.

I am thinking about getting cheap VAG-COM cable and software and see if I can reset the warning light, but like I said I am wondering if I have done any obvious wrong when fitting the the airbag / fan resistor.

Any advice would be gladly received.

Many thanks

Hi Tech1e

Thanks for getting back so quickly to me - much appreciated.

Yeah it was definitely disconnected when I tested the fan resistor.

Would a VAG-COM cable and software clear such a code?

Cheers

I will see what I can get on online and let you know how I get on.

Bit of a daft question - I have replaced the fan resistor and from time to time there is a little bit of a smell coming from the fans when blowing - is this because it is a new part and it is wearing itself in.

Sorry I know it sounds really daft...

Thanks for the advice - I will keep an eye/nose on it over the next couple of days as I will doing some longer journeys.

Many thanks again for your quick replies Tech1e.

Just a quick update - the smell from the resistor has now gone. I have also cleared the airbag warning light from the dash using vcd lite and a vag-com cable from eBay - £4.59, free delivery, got it in two days. Well impressed!

Thanks again for the advice.
