2017 Octavia Vrs Tdi water pump

Featured Replies

Hi Currently own a 2017 Octavia Vrs 2.0 Tdi from new with 21k miles on the clock.

Engine warning light came on last week one morning when I came out to start the car.

Long story short rang dealer they took the car and told me the water pump needs to be replaced and will be done under warranty.

I have a few questions

1. How can the water pump fail at only 21k and with no loss of coolant or problems with engine over heating?

2. Will the dealer replace the Cam belt at the same time even though the mileage is so little or should I pursue them to change it anyway.

3. What would be the cause of the water pump failure and is this a common issue? Ie will it need to be replaced in another 21k when the car will no longer be covered under warranty?

Cheers

1. They are a common failure point although I believe less common on newer models.  There is a recirc. sleeve that sticks causing the engine to overheat prematurely.

2. Probably not.  Worth asking to have it done depending on your ownership of the vehicle (if you own it get it done, if lease/pcp/etc, do whatever they want).

3. See point 1.

There is a sticky at the top of this section with loads of info.  Very common and I intend to get the pump changed every belt change and vice versa.
