Mystery alarm issue

Featured Replies

Hello, I’m completely baffled by my 2011 Fabia Combi today.

Yesterday, I replace the factory Swing radio with touch screen satnav head unit, which all works fine. The unit behaves just like the swing in that it turns off when the key is removed, which is fine. However, this morning, at about 6:30, I noticed that the alarm was going off, which was odd because it had only ever gone off once or twice before, neither of the other two cars at my house were going off, and there was nothing apparent to cause it. I unlocked and relocked the car, disabling it. However, very shortly afterwards, it went off again, and again, and each time I locked it, it would eventually go off again.

Suspecting that it was the new head unit causing this, I swapped it back for the swing, which had no impact. I could tell that this wasn’t a dying battery because when I got in the car, it started on the money, no hesitation or anything. In fact, my Mother took it out for a drive once I had put the swing back in, and when she got home, she locked it, which caused it to go off almost immediately. In the end, I didn’t have the time to deal with it repeatedly going off, so I had to leave it at home and I disconnected the battery while I was at college for the day. When I got home, I reconnected the battery, put the new head unit back in, and locked it. No problem, no alarm going off. It then sat on the driveway for the rest of the evening. This evening, I went out to it to make sure that everything was working fine in the car, that the head unit was turning on etc, which it was. I then locked it, which is when I noticed that the  red flashing light on the drivers door wasn’t flashing or lighting up at all. So far, there has been no alarm🤞🤞🤞

I am very confused and have no idea what could have happened, could anyone offer me an insight?

Broken wires in the A pillar leading to the drivers door I suspect.

Good shout, the cursed vag door microswitch has failed on this door. Strangely though, it has never done this before, and so far it hasn’t done it again (thankfully).

The weather has been very changeable recently, which I guess would exaggerate the broken a pillar wires issue.
