Cat avoidance

Featured Replies

I have a Vrs WRC 79/100 2wd 2002 any ideas on cat removal as I come from a non testing for emission area (jersey) and I do not know if the sender information losses will be an unsurmountable problem. The inprovement in flow and small weight gain should be worthwhile otherwise. Thanks

Firstly, welcome on board - good to have another WRC - we must have quite a few of the (23?) now...

Secondly, I believe the sensor's do require to see a change in gases before and after the cat, *but* I seem to recall someone had disabled these - one of the tuners but I cannot think who it was right now.

I'm sure someone will jump in that remembers who it was!

Welcome to the site indeed.

I was just wondering whether Jersey is one of these 40mph "nationa"l speed limit islands? just think how much you could break the speed limit by!

I think milltek will be general de-cat recommendation on here. (or powerflow pipe)

ps: when I saw the thread title I thought it was going to be something about avoiding cats when they run out into the road in front of you! :Cat: (ta, Ian :D)

Welcome Tony - good to hear of another WRC, will soon have enough for our own meet.

GAZ..

66/100

Hi Tony + welcome!

Firstly (sorry to correct you Jason!) the Milltek full system has a high flow cat - not a decat.

Yes the sensors do require a change before and after the cat - if that change isnt there all that will happen is a little light will come on, on the dash and you will get an error logged 'Catalyst below efficiency threshold'. But that is all you will get - it doesn't affect performance or have any adverse effects. You can clear the light using VAG-COM (simply do a 'clear errors codes') but it will come back on after a few hundred miles.

Also, according to those who have actually decatted their cars, it does make a considerable difference to the driving feel - ie much more pull! If you were to then get it remapped as well, then you would see big differences.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses , I have a remap coming up so I will 'unclog the tubes '. As for the 40mph limits on Jersey one should always drive within speed limits as a responsible citizen, as I don't always fit this category the 15mph lanes around me are great in the wet and dark at x5 ,I bet you lot can't do x5 on motorways! Thanks again

Tony
