What spark plugs for 2,0tsi 280ps

Recommended Posts

When I can't find parts for the Superb (most online catalogs don't even list the Mk3!) I just look for the equivalent part for the Golf R or Cupra 280 as a starting point and then once I have the part no/description I'll check the compatibility from that....a  reverse search.

Anyway, this might help:

If in doubt phone your local Skoda parts dept and give them your VRN and they should be able to advise.

Ta for this. I did have a swatch at these alternatives but found a few caveats attached based on engine variant and wasn't sure if they might apply to differences between Golf/Cupra and Skoda. Both Golf and Cupra seem to require the same part from NGK. o, that's probably encouraging.

That said, there is some chat elsewhere about NGK iridium plugs for the 280ps but I don't know if those are really for modded engines (or are a simple mod in themselves).

FYI, I'm looking into this because the dealer wanted £130 to change the plugs and that is insane since a set of the plugs above can be had for £30 if you shop around.

Cheers,

Hunt out a reputable independent specialist and ask their advice and get a quote.  They will likely will be much cheaper than dealer prices and will know what plugs work best.

Out of interest, why are you changing the plugs?  I thought this was something that, if required, was included in the major service?

Yeah, will probably need to follow that path.

FYI, even a part of the major service they want £100 for the plug change. With the car falling outside of warranty soon I'll get the dealer to do the big stuff like DSG and Haldex servicing but move over to a local garage/DIY for general servicing.

Looks like the Germans are one step ahead. UK sites don't seem to be particularly aware of the 280ps variant (what a sleeper)

Appears to confirm the 280ps should have the same plugs as the GolfR/Cupra.

Bit off topic .... I once went into Halfords to buy 8 plugs for a TVR. The plugs were a tenner each and came in a nice box of 8. The lady on the counter scanned the barcode and just charged me for one !!!

Surprised the car needs a new set of plugs, they tend to last more or less forever nowadays.

I had an E class 430 petrol V8 a few years ago that had done over 100,000 miles and I asked the dealers to change them for me, there was not a problem just thought they maybe should be changed at that mileage.

Sixteen plugs (2/cyl) and labour and the bill came out at over £600!

Dealers verdict on the old plugs?........... they were perfect!

Yeah, suspect they'll be fine but I'm the sort of fool that does oil changes at 5k intervals (at home). Apparently they are due at 40k. It's a medium fancy engine, DIY it's not too expensive (£37 posted)

If they are iridiums from factory, they don't need to be touched for ages. At least 70k miles normally.

My previous Honda came with them and the interval was 75k miles. Normally found in cars where plugs are a nightmare to access so you don't really need to do it often.

I'm 90% sure they don't fit Iridium as standard. Seems that they are the territory of the modder. Looks like 'double platinum' is the factory fit. Got a set from eBay arriving today so I'll do the service at the weekend.

As far as I can tell, it should be a fairly easy job provided I can figure out how to get the coil packs out .
