Stop Start and WLTP

Featured Replies

I’m wondering if the latest test procedure (WLTP) has made the SS system unnecessary, because our 2019 Vitara doesn’t have it .

I wouldn't have thought so since WLTP is supposed to be more onerous than NEDC. Does it have cylinder deactivation?

No but I’m getting a displayed 21.3km/l which is around the 60mpg mark and I’m not fussed about it’s absence as we spend very little time in a large city.

That doesn't mean that SS is still going to be worth fitting. SS doesn't do anything unless the vehicle will be standing on a hot engine.

Emissions engineers will design and programme an engine transmission combination to minimise the level for the specific test schedule. It now includes higher (motorway) speeds and more realistic acceleration.  It may have less emphasis on idling in traffic.

Either way, they dictate design because that’s just how important the placarded figure is these days.

BMW has got itself in a knot over their attitude to EVs in that they are both talking theirs up whilst also saying there is no demand for them.  Let’s face it, the engine defines a BMW experience at the performance level.
