Don't do this...

Featured Replies

Don't lean against your front wing next to the door and at the same time as someone opens the door. I did this when my wife opened the front passenger door. My leaning pushed the bonnet edge behind the door edge, which on opening bent the bonnet and buckled it. I've always liked the clamshell bonnet design, but it seems I've found a design fault.

Ouch. Thanks for the heads-up @StephenGallagher. I've noticed how thin that panel is, but would never have expected this problem. Hope it proves not too expensive to sort. Have you thought about where you will get it done? I have a serious sulk on with my dealer (and by association all dealers) so in your place I'd be taking it to my local trusted workshop instead. Not the same thing I know, but mine turned this

for a hundred notes. Good luck with it.

Ouch. Leaning against cars sets off my OCD alarm, who does that?!

£100, that's reasonable, what kind of outfit was that Jeff? Mobile smart repair?

No - specialist paint shop. I took it to them for a bumper-off repair. I've been using them ever since I moved here, and put a fair bit of business their way via recommendation. They said it wasn't mates' rates - either way I certainly wasn't complaining.

That's incredible. My wife just did this, I'll post you the bumper!

On a serious note (and not wishing to denigrate your good lady or her motor) how badly displaced is the damaged part from the body of the bumper? If it isn't bad and she isn't too bothered, I'd be tempted to have a go at that myself. Filler, sanding, a matched colour rattle can plus clear-cut equals loads of brownie points. The position of the damage means it won't be nearly as noticeable as it would be further up the body. Gives you a good chance to prove the value of your new DA:D.

That's actually great advice. Got a quote of €250, to hell with that. The paint is scrapped off down to the black plastic. I assume it needs priming first, then paint and lacquer. I do like a project.

As BriskodaJeff said you are lucky as there is a huge shade change there where it tucks under. Go on, give it a go. 👍

You could not find a better place to hide a repair, I recently caught a dwarf concrete block wall at my pals place, rear of sill, bottom of rear wheel arch and bottom of rear door severely gouged, its been decades since I regularly did paintwork and all my gear is in the UK not here in France nonetheless I did a virtually invisible job on silver metallic like yours.

If it were higher up the vehicle I could not have got away with dusting out the repair.

Bouyed with my success I did the end of the front bumper, that I should have faded out at the fold line where it turns around the front.

Everything ordered, watch this space!
