Octavia 2016 Mk 3 / question about headlamp unit alignment

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

My first post to the forums :)

My question is about the alignment of the headlamp unit. To me it seems that the unit is not correctly in place. Probably the previous owner took out the unit and couldn't get it back like it's supposed to. There's a gap between the headlamp and the bumper.

Removing the mk2 Octavia headlamp was easy.

So, is it possible to loosen some screws (without removing bumper) and push the headlamp back to its correct position? And if so, where are the headlamp screws located?

Please see the attached picture of the problem.

Cheers!

That's not right and looks very similar to when I hit a deer.

Open the bootlid and check where the headlight unit is screwed in. The top right lug is obvious, the top left lug (from memory) is accessed thru the plastic cover, you may need a torch to see it. Both screws should be thru the centre of the lug, my guess is you'll find one or both of them out of centre.

Check your bumper very carefully - can you see any hairline cracks? And check the panel gap between the bonnet and the wing - is it constant all the way down or is it tapered?

It could of course be a replacement unit that the previous owner hasn't fitted correctly, but then again it could be a tell tale sign of the car being in an accident.

Thanks for the quick reply :)

Bumper seems fine, no cracks, dents or anything. But the gap between the wing and the hood is slightly wider compared to the other side. So chances are there has been a minor accident before and the car's been fixed... everything is working in the car though.

Both headlamp units are a bit scratched so I think they are original units. Probably a little fender bender...

Could you please mark the locations of the headlight bolts into the image below ? :) As English is not my native language so I want to be 100 percent sure about what I'm doing 😁

Thanks a ton!
