VRS Radio Retrofit

Featured Replies

Hi,

Looking at buying a 64 plate VRS and it has this radio installed. Unfortunately, I really want Smart link (which this radio doesn't have).

1. What model radio is this (and how can you tell)?

2. Is it possible to fit a different model radio (with Smart link) to this age model? If so, which model radios will work?

i've just done this, check my thread where all my questions were answered, Sasha was really helpful on there,

That's a bolero mib1. You'll need an mib2 unit plus a new screen to get smartlink. Looking at £500 for Amundsen level or £1000 for Columbus. That includes removing component protection and then recoding the unit to match the car.

Look on eBay for parts, local dealer for CP removal, then pab567 (Pawel) for coding.

There are lots of radio/GPS units based on Android that fit in that place. They are far better in terms of navigation and entertainment than any factory solution.

oh right.

so back to my original question can someone show me a better android alternative for the octy?

@JohnnyType2 Having been through this with one unit that didn't fit and another that failed to live up to expectation (although the sound was good), the stock systems are better for living with them day to day.  just jump into the car and use it.  Never had that pleasure with a full android system.

Edit:  To answer your question .......no 😁
