Instrument cluster dimmer lead???

Featured Replies

I have noticed that my new alpine HU has a connection avaliable to the instument cluster dimmer lead, to link the display brightness to the instruments!

Anyone know where this lead is on the Octy vRS as I'd very much like to get it connected up, the display is vv bright and doesnt have a dimmer!

Thanks Guys

dont know mate my HU dimmer worked through a normal halfords adapter sorry :(

Same here, my blaupunkt dims automatically without any additional wiring. The wire is part of the standard ISO wiring and is already present at the back of the headunit.

If you need to connect separately get a multimeter and test each wire till you find the one that gives you some volts with the lights on and does not when you turn the lights off.

Jono,

don't know if you sorted it :( , so in case you haven't:

as Mannyo mentioned, it's on the "power" ISO connector. That's the black one. The other one in brown does the speaker connections.

The dimmer wire is often referred to "Illumination" wire.

http://www.g7pkf.homeip.net/cars/octavia/radio.htm shows the connections. You're after pin number six on the black connector.

Hope this helps.

Cheers :)

It seems my alpine Hu doesnt dim progressively with the cluster dimmer dial.

It just goes from mega bright to super-bright when i tuen on the cars lights...

Jono, no it won't unfortunately. :(

The illumination cable going to the head unit is just a digital signal, i.e. on or off. It doesn't take into account the wheelie dial for adjusting the lights on the dash.

I kind of have the same problem with the Pioneer DEH-P77MP head unit. It's really, really bright. I just took the fascia to bits and dimmed the lights in there. But not for the faint hearted
