If I walk away from the car with the key on me and leave it unlocked is it supposed to lock itself after a set time ?

Mine does not but a friend who had a different model of car but the same system says his does.

If you unlock the car and don't open a door, it will relock after a short period of time. If you just get out of the car it won't auto lock.

I'd ask to see what exact set of circumstances your friend alludes to.
