My two litre new octy tdi pd has now covered nearly 19000 miles and the first service is due. It is on variable servicing, and has had 1.5 litres of Shell Helix Ultra Longlife II to keep it topped up along the way.

I toddled off to my local dealer in Edinburgh today to ask for 5 litres of the same oil for the said service, to be carried out at a local garage. The parts guy, who sold me the Shell Helix previously came through from the back with 5 litres of something I had never seen before, and told me

I often wonder if you get put in what you think has been put in - some of them tell such lies!

Just had that thought myself too. Are customers getting the inferior stuff, but paying top whack for the Shell or Castrol stuff??
