CV Joints - Covered by Skoda warranty?

Featured Replies

Hi to everyone! I am new to this forum.

I own Skoda Rapid, 24000 miles done. I can hear knocking every time I reverse with the wheels turned, usually after divining longer distances. I suspect it may be caused by a CV joint, especially one of my front wheel tyres is worn out at the outside edge. Is it covered by the warranty?

Regards,

Matthias

Welcome.

How old is the car?

Highly unlikely that they will be covered as they will be claimed to be ‘wear and tear’, however they should last more than 24K miles, however as the tyres are also wearing it looks like the tracking is also out, do you dive up kerbs or though potholes? (difficult to avoid at times).

Hi. The car is 2 years old. Bought as Skoda approved with 15000 miles. No, I did not hot anything. I had that sounds pretty much since I got it but it becomes louder and louder and more frequent.

are the knocks in time with the speed as your reverse or do you just get one clunk/knock?

I get one clunk and that is all. Only when reversing. It does not happen when I drive forward. It is only on reverse gear.

Then when I drive for a while and then reverse it happens again. But again, it is not happening when I drive forward after reversing. It is kind of one way clunk. I am puzzled.

It doesn't sound like a CV joint to me, more like the suspension or brakes taking up some slack somewhere as the opposite forces are applied. May not be anything to be concerned about. I know I've heard a knock before on certain cars when dabbing the brakes in reverse.

Most you can do is check all the suspension joints and make sure there is no play in any of the ball joints or bushes, you could raise the front wheel off the ground and spin it by hand when on full lock and listen for any noises also.

Actually best thing is have someone that is trained to look at it ASAP.

?

Has the car not had a recent service if on Variable or even flexible service schedules?

Best find out what is what before wondering if the warranty will cover it, especially since it has been like this long enough for the front tyre to be worn.

The spring could be broken just at the end and not easy to see.

It's always a guessing game these weird noises. First off given the tyre wear check for a broken spring or brake pads/discs.

On another forum someone complained of a noisy diff (RWD car) seems like it could have been loose wheel studs/nuts.  I've had those too in the past but found them before it became a problem.
