Upgrade Swift radio to something with Carplay

Featured Replies

Hi there

I have an Octavia MK3 from 2016 with the swift infotainment system (see this link: https://ws.skoda-auto.com/OwnersManualService/Data/en/Octavia_5E/05-2014/Radio/Swing/A7_Octavia_Swing_InfotainmentRadio.pdf), and I would really like to upgrade to something where CarPlay is possible.

I have tried to buy the Xtron PC18OTSL android 10'' screen and that is no good. Many of the car settings and Maxidot display features are missing, and no CarPlay.

Alternatively there is the alpine i902D-OC3, but I do not like the look or the price.

I have seen here in briskoda that it is possible to upgrade an Bolero MIB2 radio so it can do Carplay (link:

So is it also possible to do the same with my Swift Radio? Or can I buy a second hand Bolero MIB2 radio and upgrade it with CarPlay? Or does my car not support that? Hope someone in here can help :)

I believe you mean Swing radio? You can’t get SmartLink on those. It’s very possible to upgrade the radio with the right people to help. As you read there you can see that I’ve done it, firstly with that Amundsen (with PFL Columbus screen) and now with MIB2.5 Columbus. The component protection will need removing and the radio coding outside the dealer network. Pab567 on here has done 3 radio upgrades for me now, very helpful guy :)

Thanks SashaGrace. Yes it is Swing (not Swift). The Columbus MIB2.5 is really cool. Do you know a good place to buy it on an EU internet site? I can only find on a ebay.de from a russian place.

Any eBay site will do, you’ll need a radio and a screen and you’ll need the CP dealing with wherever you are then send the radio unit to Pawel (Pab567) and can do all the coding and features :)

Just looking at the photos of SashaGraces installation, and most say it looks amazing!

Just bought a 2014 elegance and want to upgrade to a bigger screen,  but need some help with what's available,  and best way to go about it please.

My current equipment is in the photos

This looks like MIB1 Amundsen. You must have both screen and glove box unit replaced and hacked.

Thanks @pab567 What exactly do I require to do this?

You need to make a decision on which radio you would like. If all you want is extra screen size it’s an expensive way to get it but you’ll also be getting SmartLink, a nicer UI and a bit better sound quality out of the deal. I recommend a MIB2 Amundsen (5Q0035874A B or C depending on how much you want to spend) and an 8 inch screen 5E0919605M which is compatible but the APP button will only work on the 5Q0035874C radio as that’s the radio it was built for. You’ll also need a USB 5Q0035726E if you have an iPhone and you want to use Apple CarPlay. The radio unit will need CP unlocking and then rework by Pab567 to work in the car :)

That's great,  thanks so much for all your help
