m.o.t. strategy

Featured Replies

hello!

i've got a 2000 felicia mpi going in for her first m.o.t next week (also my first ever m.o.t).

she runs fine apart from the mysterious stalling when engine is cold / stalling when clutch is in / low idling speed problem. i've posted about this on several other threads and it sounds like it's a temperature gauge or motion crank sensor (?) problem.

so my question is this: i want the stalling issue resolved, but do i raise it before the m.o.t with the garage (for example could the car running like this affect emissions and fail the m.o.t) or should i leave it to them to see what they think needs doing? is there a protocol for this kind of thing?

thank you in advance!

Most places I've come across will not charge you for an MOT retest if it fails on something which you let them fix (and within a certain time frame) - check with the garage on their retest policy.

That way, you can put it in for an MOT test, if it passes you're home and dry (and can get the stalling sorted at your leisure), if it fails then you'll pay them to fix the issue you wanted fixed anyway, and the retest won't cost you anything.
