Nextbase Dashcam

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Has anybody fitted a Nextbase 522GW or 422GW dashcam?

If so, do you have any pictures of the  installation?

Is it better to fit the camera below the rear view mirror or at the top of the windscreen?

Did you have any problems?

Thanks for your help.

Jeff

Hi Jeff, I have just had a 322GW dash Cam fitted by Mitchell's of Chester.  They installed it just to the left of and just below the rear view mirror (The sticky pad is just on the black 'spotted' area.  This was as per the fitting instructions and does not interfere with any sensors on the mirror.

Cheers, Alan

I just picked up my 245 '19 plate which has a Nextbase camera fitted, although its a 312 or something.  Per Alan Osborne I have now moved my from the suction cup on the screen to use the sticky pad on the black dotted area.  It now hides behind the rear view mirror.  I have played with my cabling a bit to tidy it up.  There is a really good youtube video.  Hope this works.....

Thanks for the answers.

I should have said that I have a VRS 245 which has the Lane Assist camera. This means that there is a large plastic cover behind the mirror making positioning the dashcam more difficult.

@Guns could you take a picture of your installation please?

TIA

I've just fitted my Nextbase cam, but it's only a cheapy, I have my 412 in the motorhome...

The sucction cup seems to grip onto the shaded part of the screen fine, but I haven't got lane assist.....

I thought all the 245s have lane assist as standard.

Does the camera foul the sun visor?

The sun visor drops to the vertical position and then the bottom tip will push forward a couple of inches before it touches the camera, as the camera is hanging quite well forward of the sunvisor, if that makes sense...!

My 245 hasn't got lane assist and it shows as a £400 option on the configurator.....

I have the lane camera too. Mounted it underneath.....

I have but not on a mk3, all of mine fitted just to the left of the rear view mirrors on all my cars (Vag/Skoda). Up as tight as I can get the fixing to the headlining.

Avoid going behind the mirror, if it is an auto dimming type, as there is a photoelectric sensor....if you have the screen on from the dashcam, the light shines into the mirror sensor, stopping the auto dim :)

If you use screen saver mode you can go behind the mirror to avoid the sun visor knocking it.

Cable goes up inside headlining, across to the “A” pillar then down inside the door rubber into the side of the dash then onto either fuse box or to a suitable 12v socket.

Thanks for all the replies.

Not as straightforward as I'd hoped.

I recently fitted a 522gw and matching rear camera to my VRS Estate. I bought the hardwiring kit and rear camera from Halfords (on an offer and with a discount code) and installed it all myself in a couple of hours. I used fuse 48 (I'm 99% sure) as I found that to be switched on/off by the ignition and using a cheap plastic trim removal kit from Amazon, routed it up the side pillar and across the top of the windscreen.

I also installed the rear-view camera so routed the HDMI cable at the same time - this was slightly more complicated as I had to remove some trim at the back of the boot with the trim removal tools and then 4x T20 Torx screws to be able to fish the cable up that A-Pillar and through the grommet to the roof. I ran the cable behind the seat release buttons, that whole trim comes off with those Torx screws. I've attached photos to give you a bit of an idea of where I ran the cable. I used some spare 2mm cable to fish the HDMI cable up through that rear pillar and through the grommet which worked a treat. After that, it's just tidying up any excess and the viewing angle of the camera. Thankfully the boot on the Octy is big enough as I sat in there for a good chunk of the installation!

@davalarr Thanks for the post.

Does the camera restrict the movement of the sun visor?

No problem. Not at all, I think it looks a lot closer than it actually is - check image no. 1 and you'll see it's actually a couple of inches forward of the visor hinges.

Hoping to hardwire my dashcam into my new vrs when it arrives . So is fuse 48 the recommended one to go for and are the bladed fuses in the vrs the standard fuse sizes or the smaller size ? (just so I know which kit to go for )
