Drivers Window Fallen Out - 380€ to repair???

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First post - please go easy.

Have searched the net high and low for the answer, but I'd like a bit of confirmation from you experts on here.

My window of my 2012 Fabia VRS Kombi got stuck yesterday, and after a bit of back and forthing with the switch, the window seemed to pop off its rails (not sure if thats the correct term). The glass is still in one piece, and has since fallen totally down into the door.

I've seen quite a few videos/pictures of door panel removals, and it looks like to get the second panel off, I'll need to remove rivets. I don't have a drill or a rivet gun at the moment, so this would be a real pain in the arse to need to get around.

Is there a way in which one could re-align the window onto the rails/guide/whatever its called without having to remove the second cover? We took it in this morning and the mechanic spoke of a 380€ cost, but said the motor was fine. This seems like a fairly heavy price to me, especially considering I'm happy to spend the hours working on it myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Picture is of my beast.

TL;DR - my drivers side window fell into the door, and I want to re-attach it without needing to get the rivets out.

The only thing riveted in the door is the speaker, the window mech is bolt in, once the panel is off its pretty straight forward.

My guess is the cable has snapped,, or the plastic mouting broke, either way a fairly simple cheap fix "if the motor is good" can be done in less than an hour.......happy to assist on here with the job, you will be surprised how simple it is.

look here....cost nothing.....even with motor....

just regulator......

Spot on advice - thanks for all of that.

So I've almost solved the problem - I'll post this as a potential fix in case anyone else has the problem and can refer back here.

Image 1 - panelling came off and as you said, its just a Torx to get the regulator out. Nuts were too tight for me, however, and that probably bought me to look for other solutions.

Image 2:  I looked into the door cavity and could see the bracket moving when I connected the power for the switch and paddled it up and down. Was then obvious to me how the mechanism worked, and that the window had simply pulled out of the bracket, probably due to the window being super sticky.

Image 3 - The bracket was on a bend, and the clips were really tight together. This is where I was pulling my hair out - how to fit the window back in. I then remembered a video I had seen on youtube, and removed those two black bungs that you can see just above the regulator in Image 1. I could then see, when aligned, two screws that I could loosen to fit the window back in. It took a fair bit of work to get to this stage in just thinking logically through the problem, but then after a bit of pressing and pushing, the window sat in there nice and snug.

Image 4 - The only problem I have now is that on one of the clips, the tightening nut has become unattached from the rear side of the clip, and I can't get enough pressure on it to fit it back on. So it looks like next time the window pops out (if), I'll need to go back in and try and fix that nut. Currently its secured only by one side - perhaps it is in fact better to go in and tighten it in case it comes off and falls down/smashes?

Thanks again for the help, and hopefully this can be of use to others. Currently, I have a fully functioning window and the missus is very happy!
