New to these forums and new to Skoda ownership.

I've been looking at the Skoda Octavia since 1996 but couldn't afford a new car back then.

I ended up with a nearly new Toyota Avensis (ex avis hire car) and wanted to wait until it packed up and I needed a replacement.

I still have it. It still runs perfectly and has once again sailed through the MOT. Buying a new tyre now exceeds the trade-in price for the car.

But I'm impatient and 23ish years is long enough for anybody to wait so I just purchased an Octavia Scout with the DSG cogs fitted.

Hopefully 20 years of Octavia ownership about to begin.

Nice intro, Joe :)  Welcome ...

Which Scout model?  Another newie?

Yup. Last of the 19 plates. 😊

Shiney and new. (My first new car ever.)

Still less than 50 miles on the clock because I cycle to work whenever I can.  🚴‍♂️

A warm welcome to the Forum !  I was looking at the Avensis and then production stopped, so ended up with an Octavia instead.

Toyota Avensis boring, dull, grey, and uninteresting in everything it does. But reliable as the sunrise so forgiven.

New Corolla is a bit too small for my needs, New Camry doesn't come in hatch or estate.

Best of all, my new Octavia comes with an actual handbrake and a key you put in an ignition switch and turn.

All new cars should come with these things. They work.

Welcome Joe. Excellent choice for your first ever new car. I am very happy with my 2015 Scout after almost 4 years of ownership, and do not intend to change it for another any time soon. Like you I still have my previous car, a 57 reg Octavia estate - a mere 12 years old. Coming to a 2019 car from a 1996 model you will have a lot of new tech features to hopefully delight you. When you get low on fuel, you won't just get a low fuel warning, the car will offer to find a filling station for you.

Hello Joe welcome along to the Briskoda , good to have you with us . :handshake:

Two of the reasons I chose a Skoda too. Keyless entry would be enough to put me off, and a simple handbrake that wont cost me a fortune any time soon.
