Issues with Amundsen, especially Navigator

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have some issues/bugs in the Amundsen infotainment on my Superb MY2019. Anybody else that has similar experience as below ?

Autozoom sometimes useless:

- The Navigator zooms out way too early when not in a city. Most often you can barely see that the car symbol is moving at all when driving, because of the selected zoom level.

- Also skip details in the picture way to early when zooming out.

- Algorithm for autozoom is hard to understand. In the pictures (speed is km/h) I have parked at a bus stop (speed = 0), just at a connecting road (see second picture). But the navigator will not zoom in anyway, so no roads besides the one I'm on (not a big one) are visable. Compare to the manual zoom 400m picture - there are lots of connecing roads in the area.

- Chart updates to latest will not make any difference.

Auto mode zoom and detail level selected automatically by Nav, speed 0km/h. Too much zoomed out and also too "clean" to be useful:

Manual zoom mode (one step zoomed in compared to above). This is how it looks in reality, shows how useless the Autozoomed picture above is:

Traffic info volume:

- Regardless of the volume setting for Traffic info, the volume seems to be random. Most often so high that it almost blowing my ears off....

Daylight Saving Time setting:

- 1-2 times/month the car forget to adjust the time for DST, although it's still enabled. By disabling and the re-enable DST in setup again the time will be corrected. And remain correct for some weeks....

Media controls hanging:

- At intensive use of fwd/back buttons on steering wheel the button fuinctions (also on touch screen) may stop working. A restart of the car/HMI will solve the problem. Rare, but it has happened several times.

The Autozoom is the biggest problem (see pictures above), Traffic volume is at the level "annoying". But I can live with the rest.

No comments from anyone....?

I had an Amundsen system in an octavia and I found the Navigation system pretty poor in all aspects

Also the auto zoom was a joke. Often I would get a view from space of my route so I was forever using manual zoom.

The system was also slow to update.

Maybe the systems lack of processing capability freezes the unit when you send lots of commands via the steering wheel buttons. Just a thought.

To me it appears the system has not really progressed much over the past 3 years from what you are mentioning.

If your car has some form of warranty I suggest a skoda 'expert' take a look at it.

Here is the fix for the daylight savings time issue:

As for the zoom thing I totally get it. Using the built in sat nav is great for having turn by turn directions in the MFD but to be honest I find Waze hard to beat as sat nav programs go, even if it does mean I have to glance at the main screen for directions. It’s a real shame that 3rd party apps can’t use the MFD.

Tnx for answers.

I'll try the DST setting to "Europe" if not already done.

Yes, it is still under warranty, but I doubt that anyone at my dealer/Skoda are interested to help regarding the buggy autozoom. "It zooms and it works, so what's the problem ?".

Any idea about the random Traffic Info volume, regardless of setting in car config menus ?

If you are talking about Apple they can but no OEM's have implemented it other than possibly the very latest Renault Clio. It's been there since about iOS 10. In iOS 13 Apple will support multiple displays i.e. you can have the map on the virtual cockpit etc.....But it will probably be another five years before OEM's implement it if ever as they don't want to hand over that much of the in car experience to a giant american corp

lol and why not? Give people what they want I say! It’s not that long ago that CarPlay or Android Auto was what we all wanted but could only dream of. It just works so well compared to the old days of crappy bluetooth modules and people playing with their phones while driving to select music. Added bonus to the manufacturer...no maps/postcode files to buy if everyone uses the apps on their phones.
