Skoda spanner icon and car stops driving

Featured Replies

Hi, I was wondering if anyone know what is happening to my 2011 Skoda Yeti TDI.  Twice now the car has stopped on me while driving, I can drive probably 5km per hour when it happens, the spanner symbol flashes where the gear selector is.  Today I was in the car with the kids and had to put my hazard lights on as car were backed behind me, i was able to pull over just.  I turned the engine off and then back on and it was back to normal and I was able to drive the kids to school, the first time it happened it did the same thing so that's why I tried it again.  I will be taking it to the mechanic as they have ordered a sump plug for me as it had a little oil leaking, will I be up for an expensive fix, has this happened to anyone else?  I just had it serviced and it only done 75,000 km, I've owned it from new.  Any ideas please?

Does it do regular long runs?.

Perhaps it’s in ‘limp’ mode and is overdue for regenerative burn of the DPF which needs an occasional longer run than you are used to.

Thank you, no it doesn't do long drives,  I am only a short distance driver, school and shops, both times its happened in the morning only.

@Gloria Well, I think there is an intermittent fault that is putting it into "limp mode". There may be an associated fault code, but getting it needs the car to go to a competent garage or other with a good code reader. The likelihood is that you have a failing sensor, but it's impossible to know which one without diagnostics.

If as above it's a DSG car it could get very expensive.

@Gloria  What country are you in.

If a 1.6 TDI with 7 speed DQ200 DSG and a Flashing Spanner symbol then have it checked out ASAP, but as it is it needs checked anyway.

(Since you have had the car from new and if a 7 speed DSG, has it had the service campaign started in 2013 to have the oil changed in the DSG and a software update.)

Thank you, yes I need to find a proper mechanic.

Thank you, its 2.0 TDI auto, I've taken it for one recall due to the emissions issue, that was in Dec 2017, campaign 23R6 or 23R0(can't read the writing properly),it coincided with a service at 58,305kms, but they didn't change any oil in gearbox then , the gearbox oil was changed in 2016 at 42,785kms at the previous service.

@Gloria  Welcome.

Is this a car with DSG (auto) and is it a 1.6 or 2.0 TDI?

Thank you everyone, I'm in Australia.

@Gloria

Why was the DSG oil changed early @ under 43,000 km, and are you sure the DSG Oil @ Filter was changed?

The Service Guidelines / Schedule is at 65,000 km.
