Why do you want bright lights flashing on and off in your near vision and destroying your distance vision in the process?

What’s distance vision got to do with cornering?

Anyway, it’s OP’s decision.

@Ethanboothroyd - the Carista beta allows it to be activated for cheap.

A lot, unless you think that anything more than about 2s away doesn't matter. As you say it's the OP's decision, so why shouldn't they be told that it's a bad, if fashionable, idea?

I should’ve mentioned that, as standard, they activate between 0-40kmh. I think it’s designed for use around tighter corners.

As above they can be enabled via VCDS or Carista.

I personally like them for them both lighting up in reverse to light up the area that the front of the car swings out to when turning. Pretty useless for the actual cornering part of things though.

You actually can't see three feet past your nose in the dark? Should you be driving, ever, if so?

Craziest part is Cornering Fogs or Cornering Lights automatically coming on as someone selects reverse regardless of anyone coming towards them.

Doubtful many drivers actually would switch on manually Front Fogs as a car comes towards if not all ready on, or put full beam on,

yet if they need lights to the front to be able to see to reverse and nothing is coming they could put Full Beam on.

It is something that the crazy EU Construction & Use allows yet goes against the UK Highway code when they are actually Front Fog lights enabled while cornering or reversing and not

cornering headlights.

Amazing how many have no idea Front Fogs do come on as they reverse.

Thanks for the sarcasm....... 😏

Actually though if you can see as good in the pitch black as you can in daylight then you are obviously better than the rest of us mere humans. They light the ground area to the sides of the car that the headlights don't light up hence them helping when swinging the front of the car around when reversing. 🙄

If you don't do a lot of reversing in the dark...... And I mean pretty much pitch black not under street lights..... Which I do, You wouldn't understand what I mean and would not have the need for them.

... and overcast and raining. If you had ever been where I live in the Winter, you would know that I have literally been a situation where I needed a torch because otherwise I couldn't see my own outstretched arm.

f you worked for the right people, you would know that there are (commercially privileged so don't ask me to quote) studies in this area. Killing heads and then using fogs can help, but flashing your fogs off and on just kills your night vision.

Yep welcome to my world too..... I work for a government agency so have company vehicles that have similar lighting abilities all around the vehicle and gain the benefits quite often.

But anyway the reversing fogs don't flash on and off though so why would it destroy your night vision? They are on before you start reversing and stay on for the amount of time you are manoeuvring so can be upto 15-30 seconds. A few seconds to adjust between off and on and then back off again is enough for my eyes to adjust ok.

Again as I said previously I agree the cornering function is next to useless but the reversing function is totally different IMO.

Issue with those is they automatically come on and some have no idea if they do or not, and some Fog Lights for some odd reason to not have them as Fog Lights.

If someone needed Front Fogs to reverse with one prod of a finger puts them on, and also moving the stalk from Dipped to Full Beam lights up your life.

I don't quite understand what you are saying there..... Do you mean it would be better to be able to turn them on with a button or switch when required in reverse? If so that would be a possibility but would leave open the chances of people forgetting to turn them off and driving with them still switched on.

And also since when would switching on the main beam headlights light up the area immediately to the side of the front wings??

Idiots forget to turn them off anyway and there are lights in the car to let you / them know.

Muppets leave Rear Fogs on as well.

Total plonkers will have only Front DRL's and no Tail Lights while actual Dipped Head Lights are needed or even  Front or Rear Fog Lights.

Since when were you reversing on the dark side of the moon?

This is the real world not the Parallel Universe Car Designers & Software Engineers live in and give Driver Safety Aids that are nothing of the sort.

They have not got Auto Lights sorted yet in so many cases.

&

I am saying exactly that about use them if need be not as 'default;, if you need additional lighting to help reverse select it.

Then also don't sit at a road side away to reverse in a drive, select reverse and the Front Fogs or one come on regardless of what is coming up the road.

Or sit at traffic lights at road works, first car in the line and as the steering wheel turns an extra light shines, just the one,

Serious answer. My full beam has a cone about 150 degrees wide.

Serious reply..... Sorry but your main beam will not light the same area to the side of the car as the fog  lights do......

Feel free to prove me wrong though. 🙄

No need; these figures are academic, as long as you look properly pulling forwards.
