Dpf question...

Featured Replies

My car seems to be doing regens loads recently... Is this because of the mileage on the car? (109k) I assume that the dpf has more ash in it so it will block up quicker? Car has been amazing, and only problem ever was the water pump. When the dpf finally needs replacing one day, would I be right in thinking the regens will be less often again?

Thanks. (Proud to be on the original brakes too!)

What sort of miles and type (urban/highway) of driving are doing on a daily basis and how many miles between regens?

Replacement is always last option, you can have a DPF cleaned.  Just google "DFP cleaning" for more info.  Haven't a clue what prices are but would imagine a new DPF to be northwards of £1000.

Can't speak for VAG cars but on my previous car (Peugeot) anything north of 100k miles you were in to DPF issue territory.

Truth be told it's more to do with how you drive it, frequent short journeys will be the death of a DPF and a potentially costly replacement bill.

You could always add dipetane to the fuel and giving it the old Italian tune up, there are apps that will show you the ash level and let you know just how clogged up it is, very handy for telling if the dipetane

helped.

There are garages that will take out and clean the DPF for you, much cheaper than getting a new one but again if your driving style doesn't suit a diesel then you'll just be clogging up the filter again.

Ok thanks, I do 25-35k year.. so generally it's good for it... I would say about every 50-150 miles between regens which is almost every day.. I'll try some cleaner stuff and give her some loud pedal (once up to 100 oil temp of course)

Has it had the emissions fix?
