Coming Home Lights Not Working

Featured Replies

Hi  starting another thread to explain myself more clearly.

Recently my Coming Home Lights stopped working despite being activated. At the same time, a message on the MFD started appearing saying "Fault Automatic Headlight Control"

I have found a few other threads on the subject but it appears no clear answer, any ideas?

Windscreen is clean

Light switch set to auto

Settings on the Bolero all look fine, to be honest I haven't changed them from new.

Please help...

Have you done any coding on the car?

Anyway, diagnostics should point you to the problem.

Has this change in behaviour coincided with your wife's pheasant hunting you mention in another thread?

No coding whatsoever, wouldnt have  clue how to.

Diagnostics of course will answer the question, just wanted to try and avoid further cost before spending out on a fix.

Err, no, the two I believe are unrelated.

Do the headlights still automatically come on when it gets dark?

Yes.

Following a more thorough investigation yesterday, i have found...

Leaving / Coming home lights no longer work.

Rain sensing wipers no longer work

Light Assist operation is a bit hit and miss.

So, I'm guessing its the sensor cluster at the top of windscreen near the mirror, browsing round other VAG forums, it doesn't appear to be a wholly uncommon issue.

I will have a chat with my very friendly stealer today, see if they can take a look...

If the hassle / costs associated with fault code reading / fault diagnosis is your main concern, then pay the £16 for Carista.

This includes the plug-in adaptor and one month's free trial of the App needed on your phone, with next day delivery available.

For basic fault code reading and hidden option activation then there really is little need for the more expensive, complicated but capable VCDS...

That's the beauty of Carista, it is designed for you and me, Joe Public, not a trained technician, garage or tech nerd.

It looks like this, really user friendly and easy to use / understand...

Looks good,  but it helps if you know what you're looking at. 😂

I struggle with this this sort of stuff which is frustrating as there are changes and things I have wanted to make since i bought the car nearly 6 years ago.

Definitely, fault codes aren't easily understood, but then they don't need to be, it is getting access to them that is the hard part, this is where you can get stung for dealer diagnostic charges which are often based on their hourly labour rate. One hours labour can sometimes pay for a couple of years of Carista membership.

Once you have the fault codes you can post them on here and open up a wealth of useful information and advice.

You can even search for the fault codes on other sites such as this one linked below, where it gives you the possible causes, symptoms and fixes...

As an example...

Carista will present you with the fault codes in a similar format to this...

Don't be put off.

Thank you but will probably just pay the dealer for fear of messing something up.

Hello, sorted, it was the rain sensor.

Did it myself eventually, took 15 minutes to swap.

Ordered the part from ebay for €44 delivered, no other costs.

If anybody needs to do same, order part number 5Q09555559A.
