Crunchy window.

Featured Replies

As the weather has been fine I decided to check the driver's window out. It had crunched the last time I closed it (about 3 months ago). Bad idea! The slightest twitch of the switch and crunchy tinklings happened and the window slow slid open an inch or so.

I already had the rivets and a cable kit and a roll of 6mm butyl.

Axle stand helped support the carrier during removal.

Small torx key used to flip the wiring connector on the lock.

More or less the state of play before retiring inside.

One of the white plastic trucks had broken. I bent a few retainers out of coat hanger wire to keep the spring under tension. Still needed a pair of grips to pull the cables tight enough to fit the new truck. Also easier to take the motor off as it stops the spool from rotating.

Saturday is set for cleaning off old silicone, washing off WD40 residue and reassembly.

Mutters..... I I had a 3D printer, I could print some retainers for M8 nuts to fit on the door. Then I could use M8 bolts or machine screws to hold the carrier on. Or easier, M6 nuts.....

Lessons learnt from the passenger door.....

Only stick the butyl around the bottom 2/3 -3/4 of the carrier.

Be methodical and check all of the wiring and rods/grommets are in place FIRST, before offering up the sticky butyl carrier. Door lock cable connector must click or it's not fully on.

Axle stands to support the carrier whilst wiring faff.
