Towing and hill starts

Featured Replies

Hi, in terms of ‘hill hold’ and Electronic Parking Brake, do these both brake with the same power/efficiency? I’ve just bought my DSG Kodiaq and haven’t towed yet, but my first trip will be a regular one to The Lakes where there’s a considerable hill start at a junction. Am I better pulling on the electronic parking brake, or using the ‘hill hold’, or are they - in terms of ‘holding’ power while I’m waiting to move off - one and the same? Many thanks.

The autohold brakes all 4 wheels the same as sitting with your foot on the brake pedal. The EPB only applies on the rear wheels.

Even though the EPB is still on the rear wheels the force generated by them is immense compared to a cable handbrake so i'm willing to bet it would hold fine, but as above, the auto hold is superior if you give the pedal a good press as it works hydraulically on all 4 corners (all auto hold does is trap in the pressure that you initially generate)

I tow, and autohold works just as well with 1.5 tonnes on the back, as it does unladen...
