Coolant loss....again!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

In January of this year, my VRS had a sudden loss of coolant. By sudden, I mean that I'd checked it to be healthy a couple of weeks earlier, and then noted it to be virtually empty. It went in under warranty, and they noted a crack in the radiator, which was replaced.

Anyway, roll on to yesterday when my warning light came on, and I found the coolant reservoir to be pretty much empty again. I last checked it just over 2 weeks earlier as we were going on holiday, and it was fine. This time, the engine was overheating to 110c, and I had to leave my car at work till I can get it booked in at the dealer.

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas of what it might be?

Ps, no visible leak of fluid at all on the floor, or engine bay...

Cheers

Chris

Is your car petrol or diesel ?. If it's diesel could be the water pump failing. Up to a certain year there was a problem. What year is yours and how miles has it done.

I had this problem on my Yeti, got worse and worse i.e. I had to top it up every 100-200 miles, no leaks, system presdure tested ok. The issue was the EGR valve cooler was leaking when cold and sealing when hot, so loosing water until expanded and sealed. Car has had the fix and problem came after that. Replaced under TBM at no cost 15,000 miles ago, now just today Orange Emmissions Control Light / Engine Management Light has come on.....really not a happy bunny....love the car!!

Sorry, I thought the forum had gone quiet, then realised I had turned off my notifications!

It's a petrol.

I'm obviously thinking nasty....head gasket etc, but can't imagine that it would lose coolant, then be ok for 6 months before it lost again?
