Strange one - Steering issue after brake change??

Featured Replies

VRS 2006

I replaced all 4 discs and pads and front drop-links this weekend.

When driving along straight and you turn the steering wheel its stiff initially for a 10th/second then feels ok whilst turning .

If the wheel is not turned for more than a few seconds its slightly stiff again on first imput, Its like having to overcome a slight resistance.

Not sure how replacing the brakes and Drop links would cause this?  surely its the power steering pump?

I bought Brembo PADS and Discs - the front pads were quite tight to fit even after cleaning all the guides thoroughly. I may try putting back the old pads and guides to see if this rectifies it and shows the tight pads to be the problem, but still cant see how this would effect what is an unrelated issue the power steering sytem?

I have now finally discovered the hidden power steering fluid reservoir - Ill whip out the battery and check my levels are correct too.

Any other suggestion?

Did you have the car radio on while doing the brake work? Might just be that your battery got in a low state of charge?

I thought this was a wind up reply until I googled it.

I didn't know the Fabia had electric PAS pump, it's the first I've ever heard of it. Learn something new every day 😃

Yes The radio was on all day and its an old battery.

The issue had now gone away after driving it a few miles assuming the charge levels are back up.

Thank you for taking the time to reply 😎

I guess you've never checked the PAS fluid level then? The reservoir cap in hidden underneath the battery tray if you want to check it.
