Irregular idle - shaky engine?

Featured Replies

I'm working through my list of issues since buying the car, Brakes replaced this weekend with Brembo - result car now stops how it should.

Next: At idle the engine shakes around a fair bit and when in the car it passes that wobble to the body and occupants.

I think there is a miss about every second but is irregular. As soon as accelerator is applied and you drive it's gone and drives very smoothly at all the rev range.

Is there a known issue at idle?

Is there an idle control valve?

Anything to check or clean?

Come on, give us a chance, what engine are we talking about?

All good with spark plugs and air filter? Did you have a chance to check for any codes with an OBD scanner? You don't always see a MIL light.

It says VRS 2006 in my SIG - I thought this was enough - my appologies

It's a Mk1 VRS diesel 1.9TDI - the same engine surprisingly as the one in my ford galaxy 🤓

OK So now we have identified the correct variant of Fabia, do we have any suggestions?

Shaking on tick over is usually indicative of a failing DMF or dog bone mount in a VRS.

The DMF was replaced last year (by the previous owner) with a SMF, however it still sounds rattley and clunky to me.

Then that is the source of the vibration, the only cure is to refit a DMF.

Oh ok?

I've had a google and there are a few articles on shaky engine on tick-over that relate to worn cams, followers and buckets that can cause this too clicky

You will still go with the flywheel issue though rather than the cam one then?

Absolutely, SMF conversions are notoriously noisy and shaky.

In that case I can live with it until it fails

Thanks
