reversing camera

Featured Replies

can a reversing camera be fitted to my octavia scout 2010 with the bolero radio/disc player, and how is it done.

No, the bolero doesn't support video in. You'll need to upgrade to a better stereo unit. If you go for an OE stereo, you'll need an extra box to get it to accept the video feed as it's not compatible with an aftermarket camera (there's no OE camera) or use an aftermarket stereo.

I fitted one with an android headunit last month, been very happy with it so far.

I have an android headunit and I wanted to fit a reversing camera for quite some time now, but I'm daunted at the prospect of all those wiring, wouldn't know where to start. Do you have any manuals or tutorials on how to wire a reversing camera? I did google them quite a bit, but usually they focus on how to fit the actual thing into its slot, and then just vaguely hint at how they actually got the wire all the way from the boot to the headunit! Must've seen at least 10 tutorials where they imply it's common knowledge. Especially scary since I need to route it through rubber seals, and mistakes mean possible leaks.

How did you learn to fit it?

I basically read a lot of what other people did and filled in the gaps!

I used a boot switch with integrated camera: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Reversing-Integrated-2010-2014-Rectangular-interface-LS8012-Connector/dp/B07MYR8KBJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?keywords=octavia%2Breverse%2Bcamera&qid=1565520428&quartzVehicle=106-1344&replacementKeywords=reverse%2Bcamera&s=gateway&sprefix=octavia%2Bre&sr=8-11&th=1&psc=1

I chose that one as it said it was 720p and had a switch to turn the guide lines on and off.

I removed the lower and upper hatch trim (a few screws and sharp tugs get them off) to fit the camera, the actual running of the wire is a bit involved.

I had to remove the passenger boot trim, the seat side cushion, the lower c pillar trim, the b pillar trim, and the lower a pillar trim. Then with the aid of a straightened out wire coathanger you can run the cable up the inside of the hatch, through the rubber boot, done into the boot, then forwards into the cabin, along the passenger side all the way to the radio.

I used the "reverse" power feed for the camera, and it worked beautifully with no interference lines or anything. I didn't even need to connect the dedicated earth, it just worked which I was surprised about but I wasn't about to fiddle with it while it was working so I just put it all back together and went on my merry way!

Here's a photo of the end result.
