I have a bit of a weird one going on. If I take a left hand bend in a spirited fashion I get a very brief "barp!" exhaust note that seems to be coming from underneath the car. I'm wondering if 2 sections of exhaust could have some play. Any obvious suspects I should check? It doesn't do it except for left hand bends!

I think you've got it. A good local exhaust centre (so not Kwik-krap) will help out for a contribution to their coffee swindle.
