ignition switch jams intermittently getting worse

Featured Replies

I bought my Skoda Octavia 1.6 fsl 2007 and its running great apart from  starting. Its happened a few times the key goes in the ignition but won't turn and turning off can be difficult. I guess its wear on the barrel but can the barrel be replaced or must you replace the assembly and if it can is it necessary to strip down the steering column to get at it

This happened my Octavia I.  I pulled out the ignition barrel ( several videos on YT ). Fushed the barrel many times ( with petrol :) - dare say there is a proper way to do this ) lots a gunk came out.  Lub the key with graphite ( I used a 4B pencil ). Exercise key in barrel. If all seems OK then put barrel back in car.  Haynes manual was helpful(ish).

Didnt have to strip down the steering column just loosen the plastic upper & lower covers.
